YO. Dunno if this is any help, but when im painting with oils/acrylic I try to paint the background first and focus on a horizontal action to get a nice horizon then add any shit like clouds or planets etc. post getting down that base gradient. for colouring maybe try something simple like using a colour wheel or website with colour schemes and match the sienna colour of the planet with something.
